Who are the believers? I sometimes wonder if we know more about disbelief than we do belief.
We claim to know what’s wrong with society, but do we know what’s right with it? What does a good society look like? What part or role do we play in that?
If the society is to be good, if the world is to be made a better place, than what is our place in that society? In that world?
Who are you?
انْصُرْ أَخَاكَ ظَالِمًا أَوْ مَظْلُومًا ”. فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنْصُرُهُ إِذَا كَانَ مَظْلُومًا، أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِذَا كَانَ ظَالِمًا كَيْفَ أَنْصُرُهُ قَالَ ” تَحْجُزُهُ أَوْ تَمْنَعُهُ مِنَ الظُّلْمِ، فَإِنَّ ذَلِكَ نَصْرُهُ
“Help your brother whether he is an oppressor or an oppressed,” A man said, “O Allah’s Messenger ﷺ I will help him if he is oppressed, but if he is an oppressor, how shall I help him?” The Prophet ﷺ said, “By preventing him from oppressing others. That is how to help him.” Sahih al-Bukhari, hadith #6952
The hypocrite is weak in faith: but why? Is it because he constantly needs reassurance? Is it because the signs in the Heavens and the earth are not sufficient to motivate him? Is it because he procrastinates because he feels the Hour will never come?
يا أَيُّهَا الَّذينَ آمَنوا لا تُلهِكُم أَموالُكُم وَلا أَولادُكُم عَن ذِكرِ اللَّهِ ۚ وَمَن يَفعَل ذٰلِكَ فَأُولٰئِكَ هُمُ الخاسِرونَ
وَأَنفِقوا مِن ما رَزَقناكُم مِن قَبلِ أَن يَأتِيَ أَحَدَكُمُ المَوتُ فَيَقولَ رَبِّ لَولا أَخَّرتَني إِلىٰ أَجَلٍ قَريبٍ فَأَصَّدَّقَ وَأَكُن مِنَ الصّالِحينَ
وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ اللَّهُ نَفسًا إِذا جاءَ أَجَلُها ۚ وَاللَّهُ خَبيرٌ بِما تَعمَلونَ
“All you who believe! Don’t let your money or your children distract you from remembering God, for anyone who allows that to happen will be losers in the end. Spend something in charity out of what We’ve supplied to you before death should come upon one of you, and he cries out, ‘My Lord! Why didn’t you give me a little more time? I would’ve given much more in charity, and I would’ve been with the righteous!’ However, no soul will receive from God any more time when its deadline has come, and God is well-informed of what you’re doing.” Qur’an, 63: 9-11
